CONCORD, N.C. – When the Southern 500 returned to Labor Day weekend in 2015, the retro theme of the race made it one of the most anticipated of the season.
This year, the throwback feel is back yet again for the Southern 500, which will take place on Sept. 4.
We’ve already seen how Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Nationwide will mark the occasion with a paint scheme designed as an homage to Buddy Baker’s “Gray Ghost.”
This afternoon, Chase Elliott will show off the throwback paint scheme that he will run on the No. 24 NAPA AUTO PARTS Chevrolet SS at Darlington.
The event will take place on Facebook Live, and will be broadcast on the Hendrick Motorsports Facebook page at 4:50 p.m. ET. Be sure to like Hendrick Motorsports on Facebook so you don't miss it!
Elliott, who currently leads the 2016 Rookie of the Year standings, will give fans an exclusive tour of the retro design and explain the various elements and details. Following the Facebook Live segment, Elliott will also appear on FS1 at 5 p.m. ET.
Last season, Elliott and NAPA teamed up for a throwback scheme inspired by “Awesome” Bill Elliott at Darlington.
