CONCORD, N.C. – Saturday morning, No. 48 team car chief Ron Malec was presented with the Mechanix Wear Brian Lunniss Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award is given to mechanics in motor sports who demonstrate remarkable achievements during their career. Malec was honored with the award at a special ceremony surrounded by family, friends, teammates and many others.

Malec has been with the No. 48 team since 2003 and had worked with Jimmie Johnson years prior to his NASCAR career.

In receiving the award, Malec was humble.

“I don’t think of myself as anyone special,” he said. “I go to work every day and do my job.”

No. 48 team crew chief Chad Knaus shared high praise of Malec’s dedication.

“He really embodies what is to be a mechanic and a racer,” Knaus said on stage. “We would not be as successful at Hendrick Motorsports, especially on the No. 48 car, without him.”

Malec reflected on the honor with gratitude and appreciation.

“It makes me feel really special and it helps me put my career into perspective and how important it is to me,” Malec said.
