CONCORD, N.C. -- Each Wednesday, a new edition of #MorningsWith airs live on the Hendrick Motorsports Twitter account, introducing fans to teammates all across the organization’s Concord, North Carolina, campus.
This week, we got to know Lisa Smokstad, lead tire specialist.
She recalled how a chance meeting with former Hendrick Motorsports driver Ken Schrader got her into racing after originally going to school for psychology and starting a career looking after the best interest of children in court.
Once the racing bug bit her, she never looked back. She joined Hendrick Motorsports in 1999, working on championship-winning teams in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series in the years since.
“It’s a wild rush. It’s a sprint and an endurance race all together,” she said of the hard work required to win a championship. “It’s constant pressure and super excitement – it’s kind of why I’m still here, because every weekend we have a chance to win, which is so exciting to me. You can’t really take that away.”
