DARLINGTON, S.C. – Chase Elliott hopes his second NASCAR Xfinity Series start in 2024 for Hendrick Motorsports goes a lot like the first.
Elliott piloted the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet to a win at Charlotte in May and will take another crack at getting to victory lane at Darlington Raceway on Saturday afternoon.
The Dawsonville, Georgia, native will have a little ground to make up to achieve that after pole qualifying was held earlier on Saturday. Elliott turned in a lap of 30.451 seconds in qualifying 16th.
The 28-year-old also was better in practice, putting together the fourth-best overall lap average (31.552 seconds) and fourth-best five-lap average (30.527).

“Appreciate everyone at Hendrick Motorsports, letting me come drive (the) HendrickCars.com (car),” Elliott said. “Mr. Hendrick, Greg (Ives), everybody that has put a lot of effort into this. Going to go out here and try to get another win.”
The weekend will culminate with the Southern 500, with green flag slated to drop at 6 p.m. The race will serve as the regular season finale in the NASCAR Cup Series.
Saturday afternoon’s race is set for a 3:30 p.m. start time and will air on USA Network.
