CONCORD, N.C. -- The field has been set for Sunday's first-ever NASCAR Cup Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and William Byron will lead the charge with a first-place start after he won the Busch Pole Award.
Teammates Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson also had top performances during the qualifying sessions and will roll off the grid in third and fourth place, respectively.
Alex Bowman will round out the Hendrick Motorsports brigade by starting the race in 24th place.
"I felt like I put a decent lap down but the car is fast and I feel like we've got good speed and good horsepower," Byron said. "It was a good session for us. Overall, really happy with it."
The Cup Series had qualifying Sunday morning, which determined the starting lineup through two separate rounds. The top 12 in the first round went on to compete in a 10-minute second round to determine the pole and set the top part of the field.
While Larson posted the best time in the first round, it was Byron's speed among the top 12 that cemented his pole position. It marks Byron's second pole of the season after he started up front at Road America in July.
